The “Shoreline” series comprises pieces that are inspired by the place where the sea meets the shore. A light-coloured, slightly matt glaze reflects the graininess of a sandy beach, with varying bands and colours dictated by the thickness and flow of the glaze. Sweeping against this is a deep, glossy, flowing blue glaze that is reminiscent of the sea washing up on the shore; varying from the deepest sea-blue to pale sky-blues and white. Where there is interaction between the glazes there can be hues of pink and purple.

There are variations in how the pieces are glazed, although the same combination of glazes is used: Some pieces may have both glazes inside like the sea washing onto the shore; while others have just the blue glaze like the swirling ocean.

The “Shoreline” series was inspired by my abstract seascape photography and was introduced at an exhibition of photographs and ceramics at Globe Gallery in Yorkshire in May 2021.
