Carboniferous is a collection of work that takes reference from the coal mines of Yorkshire. Coal is formed from the decay of plants and trees that grew in the carboniferous period and were later heated and compressed by overlying geological strata. My aim with these is to capture the transition from plant to coal as you move vertically through the piece. Occasionally I inlay the work with fine 24ct gold dust as a nod to the riches that were made by the early mine owners.
