The “Black Moss” collection is inspired by the peat moorland of the South Pennines. Black Moss is a hill on the Pennine Way and is characterised by exposed peat, heather and grasses. It can be a bleak place but equally is stunningly beautiful with the call of curlews overhead and the sound of nearby waterfalls. Sadly it is also prone to moorland fires which can leave the land scarred and blackened until new green shoots appear.
The pieces are decorated with a craggy surface texture, which is inlaid with a glaze. The same glaze is used inside and on the rim and base of the pots but it changes colour and character depending on its thickness.
